COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT AND LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Using Bees, Biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions to Support Conservation
Beekeeping and Nature-Based Conservation
Tembo Pilipili Program promotes beekeeping as a nature-based conservation approach that simultaneously contributes to biodiversity conservation, community livelihoods and Human–Elephant Conflict mitigation. Bees and beehives can act as a natural deterrent to elephants while honey production provides an economic incentive for communities to protect their surrounding environment.
The program supports communities with beekeeping knowledge, hive establishment, colony management, honey harvesting and marketing. Through this approach, conservation becomes directly linked with tangible economic benefits for local communities.
